DFS GALLERIA AUCKLAND AIRPORT
As Darroch's had previously worked for DFS in New Zealand when they established an earlier distribution centre, they approached them to assist with their new site that has been operating at Auckland Airport since early 2003. DFS had grown out of their previous site and had made a decision to develop a new, more appropriate site at the airport.
Darroch's undertook their normal staged process in studying DFS business, determining requirements, analysing data and developing layout concepts for the integrated material handling system and operating procedures. This involved a relatively straightforward selective racking bulk storage area with a raised storage area for storing and picking orders of small products. A simple conveyor system was installed to convey product from both levels within the picking zones to a series of packing benches.

The facility has been operating successfully since completion and has provided DFS with adequate room to expand and a modern, efficient facility providing the levels of productivity and service the business requires.
